Web Sites: Gender Bias eLearning Project

Challenge Joan Williams is the leading expert and advocate in the identification and understanding of gender bias. As Distinguished Professor of Law at University of California, Hastings College of the Law and 1066 Foundation Chair and Director at the Center for WorkLife Law, Joan conducts and publishes research of this phenomena which greatly impacts the careers of women and the value they might bring to institutions throughout the U.S. and abroad. How can Joan build awareness and understanding of gender bias, the impact it has, and promote strategies for dealing with it? Joan contacted BayCreative for help. We listened and learned about gender bias and understood the vision Joan had already begun to formulate. We asked her the most detailed questions about her expectation and goals in making the most effective use of the important work she had dedicated herself to.

BayCreative Solution BayCreative helped to bring a creative and innovative atmosphere to this process that began to yield many wonderful ideas about how we might go about a project. Finally, a clear spark lit with the concept of a game. An excellent way, we felt, to trim the edge off of a very emotional subject, but without demeaning the material, and indeed, making the information more accessible and easily assimilated. This vision and focus now clear, BayCreative put in motion it's team bringing to life the Gender Bias Learning Project web site. BayCreative's designers, writers, illustrators, animators, videographers, production artists and project managers all came together for the big job of creating an environment for learning, experience sharing and change.
